Common pitfalls

  • Finned-top modules go in switches; flat-top modules go in NICs. Ordering the wrong one stalls the build.
  • MPO polarity and APC vs. UPC connectors must match end to end, or links will not come up.
  • Switch vendors check module coding. Confirm firmware and vendor compatibility before ordering third-party optics.
