Cloud backlogs and capex are climbing together, and buyers are signing for years of capacity.
Google Cloud revenue rose 103% to $30.7B. Microsoft's commercial backlog reached $677B. Anthropic's S-1 lists compute contracts that The Register tallies at $782B to $807B.

Oracle opens Vera Rubin NVL72 to customers
TakeawayNVIDIA and Oracle said Vera Rubin NVL72 systems and Vera CPUs are generally available on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
- Oracle plans to scale OCI Superclusters with Vera Rubin to multi-gigawatt size.
- HGX Rubin NVL8 is planned: eight GPUs, two 64-core Xeon 6 CPUs, 4TB of DDR5.
- OpenAI says it trained GPT-6 Astra on more than 100,000 Blackwell GPUs in Abilene.
AngleAvailability is announced; price, rack counts and an NVL8 date are not. "Multi-gigawatt" is Oracle's plan, not a delivery schedule, so contract delivery dates matter more than the gigawatt figure.
Oracle to add Google TPUs to OCI in 2027
TakeawayOracle plans to offer Google TPUs on OCI, which it says would make it the first hyperscale cloud outside Google's own to do so.
- TPUs become selectable in 2027, with capacity growing over several years.
- Oracle did not say how many TPUs.
Angle"First" is Oracle's claim. With no unit count, this signals a second accelerator option beside NVIDIA, not new supply.
Google Cloud revenue doubles as capex hits $51.4B
TakeawayAlphabet reported third-quarter results on Oct. 28.
- Google Cloud revenue: $30.7B, up 103%.
- Capex: $51.4B versus $24.0B a year earlier; $131.95B year to date.
- Free cash flow: negative $9.1B.
AngleTPU system sales are booked in Cloud and Alphabet calls them a "meaningful contributor," so the 103% mixes hardware sales with rental and is not like-for-like with rental-only clouds. The release gives no capex outlook.
Microsoft commercial backlog reaches $677B
TakeawayMicrosoft reported fiscal first-quarter 2027 results for the quarter ended Sept. 30.
- Revenue: $92.3B, up 19%.
- Azure revenue growth: 48%.
- Commercial remaining performance obligation: $677B, up 73%.
AngleRemaining performance obligation is contracted revenue not yet delivered, so it measures capacity still to be built and served. The release leaves guidance to the earnings call.
Buyer Signals & Deals
Anthropic's S-1 lists $782B-plus in compute deals
TakeawayAnthropic's S-1, filed Oct. 26, lists compute contracts that The Register tallies at roughly $782B to $807B.
- Broadcom about $161.2B; Google at least $114.5B; Amazon at least $110B.
- SpaceXAI up to $120.5B, cancellable on 90 days' notice from early 2027.
- Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Broadcom deals are non-cancellable.
AngleAnthropic gives no firm total; the sum is The Register's. "Up to" figures are ceilings, not firm minimums, so the binding obligation is smaller than the headline.
Meta prices $25B stock sale and $12.5B preferred
TakeawayMeta priced a $25.0B Class A common stock offering at $625.00 a share, alongside a mandatory convertible preferred.
- Preferred: 6.50% Series A depositary shares at $50.00, about $12.5B net.
- Common is sold through forward agreements; settlement is expected by Nov. 19, 2027.
- Stated use of proceeds: "general corporate purposes."
AngleThe filing does not tie the money to GPUs or data centers, so linking it to capex is inference. The forward structure means the common-stock cash arrives later than the preferred.
NVIDIA to invest $3B in Meta's offering
TakeawayNVIDIA said it will invest $3 billion in Meta's equity offering while expanding work on Meta's Muse models.
- Meta plans to expand its Vera Rubin and Vera CPU deployment.
- Spectrum-X Ethernet and BlueField-4 networking are included.
- The release gives no GPU counts, megawatts or other dollar figures.
AngleA supplier funding a customer's equity can loop vendor cash back into hardware orders. The release states no order size, so the size of any loop is unknown.
Neocloud & GPU Cloud Moves
General Compute raises $100M at $800M valuation
TakeawayGeneral Compute raised a $100M Series A led by Blackbird Ventures and Abstract Ventures.
- Post-money valuation: $800M, versus $60M at the May seed.
- It runs inference chips from SambaNova, Positron and Cerebras, not NVIDIA.
- Plans 75MW deployed in 2027, with access to 200MW.
- TechCrunch says a $100M-ARR customer deal helped enable the round.
AngleThe round leans on one large customer deal, per TechCrunch. A $400M SambaNova chip purchase deal, described as the first debt financing for inference chips, tests how lenders value non-GPU silicon.
Anthropic books $85.9B at Nscale and Lambda
TakeawayAnthropic's S-1 discloses GPU services agreements with two neoclouds. Fees accrue only as capacity is delivered and accepted.
- Nscale: up to about $44.6B over terms into 2033, signed August 2026.
- Lambda: about $41.3B into 2034, of which about $34.9B is the August agreement.
- The August Lambda deal is terminable if Lambda does not timely secure the facility lease.
Angle$85.9B is the two figures summed (computed). Nscale must use best efforts to secure GPU financing, so the open risks for both providers are financing and delivery, not demand.
Model Releases & Compute-Demand Drivers
Inference lifts CPU and DDR5 demand; MLCCs tight into 1H27
TakeawayTrendForce says the shift from training to inference and agents is lifting CPU demand, and with it DDR5 and high-capacitance MLCC demand.
- Vera Rubin shipments ramp month by month from 4Q26; AMD is buying specialized MLCCs for MI450.
- ODMs expect shortages to peak in 1Q27 and 2Q27; TrendForce expects them through 1H27.
- Murata's new capacity is unlikely before 2028.
AnglePassive components, not only GPUs, can set rack delivery dates. TrendForce states no MLCC lead times, so treat any quoted weeks as unverified. 1Q27 price talks begin in November.
Anthropic reports $16.3B first-half revenue
TakeawayAnthropic's S-1 reports first-half 2026 revenue of $16.3B, up from $1.2B a year earlier.
- Operating loss: $693M, versus $2.1B a year earlier.
- Adjusted operating profit: $1.6B, about a 10% margin.
- Net loss: $80.7B, of which $72.4B is a valuation-related accounting adjustment.
AngleRevenue grew about 13.6x (computed from $16.3B and $1.2B). That is the demand behind the commitments above. Adjusted operating profit is the company's own metric.

Microsoft faces Dec. 8 vote on emissions plan
TakeawayA shareholder proposal asks Microsoft to explain how it will meet its 2030 greenhouse gas targets. The annual meeting is Dec. 8.
- Reported emissions rose from 13M to 20M tons CO2e between 2020 and 2025.
- Purchased energy was 13% of 2025 emissions, up from 2% in 2024.
- Microsoft recommends shareholders vote against.
AngleEnergy sourcing is becoming a disclosure question for the largest cloud buyers of power. Microsoft's objection is that the proposal asks for forward-looking scenarios beyond reporting requirements.
