A thin Monday: one neocloud signs for 500MW in Malaysia, and data centres keep getting hit in wars.

Top of mind

Aolani's letters of intent are non-binding. NBC counts at least 27 attacks on data centres. We found little else first reported since Friday.

Aolani signs LOIs for 500MW in Malaysia

TakeawaySingapore-founded neocloud Aolani signed letters of intent for up to 500MW of AI data centre capacity in Malaysia.

  • Capacity targeted from the second half of 2027, across multiple Tier III sites.
  • Aolani projects up to 580MW committed in Malaysia by 2027, up from about 80MW in 2026.
  • The LOIs are non-binding; no counterparties or investment value named.

AngleTreat it as a pipeline marker, not capacity. The 500MW is most of the 580MW target (computed from Aolani's figures), and it rests on agreements not yet negotiated.

NBC counts 27 attacks on data centres

NBC News·2026-10-17

TakeawayNBC News analysed attacks on data centres in conflicts and found a growing pattern.

  • At least 27 attacks across global conflicts, by NBC's count.
  • Facilities in five countries have been hit.
  • The piece opens with a Russian drone strike on a Kyiv data centre.

AnglePhysical security and siting now belong in capacity risk models alongside power and cooling. Experts quoted by NBC expect more attacks. Last week's Saratov strike fits the same pattern.
